Professor Aweis Osman Ahmed is a lawyer and technology specialist, and a co-founder of both the Mogadishu Law Office and the Somali Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He serves as the firm’s Managing Director and as a full-time Professor at the Institute.
He brings more than twenty years across legal practice and information technology. That includes over sixteen years at the United States Federal Communications Commission in Washington, in software development and project management, where he earned his Master’s degree in Information Management Systems. The combination lets him bridge Somalia’s legal heritage with the demands of modern practice.
A graduate of Lafoole University of Education in 1978, his part in Somali legal education reaches back to the late 1970s. He helped sustain the Institute’s earliest classes when it had no funding, paying for students to travel to court and supporting the study that set its founding work in motion. In 2025 he was appointed a Public Notary by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
At the firm he directs regulatory operations and the delivery of its institutional mandates, and leads much of its telecommunications and digital-infrastructure work.
